EQUALS LA PREMIERE: Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult and Cast

Equals stars Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult, Jacki Weaver, and director Drake Doremus attend the fabulous premiere in Los Angeles! 

Many of Kristen's friends attended the event, including Suzie Reimer, CJ Romero, and Catherine Hardwicke. Charlie Hunnam, Criminal Minds actor Matthew Gray Gubler, Courtney Love, Bar Paly, and Aurora Perrineau were also there.

MENTIONS: EQUALS Director Drake Doremus Talks Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult's "Unhinged Moments" in the Film

Kristen Stewart's Equals director Drake Doremus discussed her and her co-star Nicholas Hoult's work in the sci-fi/romantic dystopian film with No Film School and Tribeca Short List. He discussed at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival:

NFS: You have a very interesting scene in a bathroom where Silas and Nia first discover human physical intimacy. It's not a sex scene, but it's very sexually-charged. How did you approach shooting that?

Doremus: That's probably my favorite scene in the movie. Kristen and Nicholas hadn't really touched at any point up to that scene. So it was an unhinged moment. We'd just do long 30-minute takes. I played music the entire time.That created a very cool tone and vibe—the music that's in the film. We talked about the scene a lot, and then I just kind of let them go.

I'm more interested in watching what the actors do, and then changing things and guiding things, rather than telling them what to do. I'm more interested in not clouding their mind with all the things they have to remember to do. It's about getting them not to think, and be completely out of body and to not try to do anything but just be in the moment, react, and respond genuinely to what's going on.

NFS: What kind of simple things? Movements?

Doremus: For instance, for Nick: what does Kristen smell like in the scene? What's going on with her eyebrows? Just focusing on little elements essentially will change him, and change how he reacts. Just getting them to focus on other things that are not themselves, either. Trying to get them to focus on each other as much as possible, to bring something out of each other.

TSL: What were you looking for the in the cast? 


Doremus: Nic is somebody I always wanted to work with, and we really essentially wrote Silas [his character] for him. He was really the only actor I ever wanted for the role. I met him about four and a half years ago, and that was the beginning of our relationship. Kristen and I met and it was super fascinating… [during the shoot] she let me push her for the character. Nobody’s harder on her than herself. She cares so much and she’s so passionate about her work. They have really amazing chemistry and it was really awesome to see them on set everyday.

Drake always has such kind things to say about Kristen and Nick. Sweet!

EQUALS: First Trailer: Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult Find Love in a Hopeless Place!!

 

The new trailer for Equals, starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult has arrived!! With the excitement of the film premiering at Cleveland and Tribeca Film Festivals, we had yet to experience the full-on emotional feels of the first trailer...until now! 

EQUALS takes place in a utopian society where violence and crime have been virtually eradicated—via the genetic elimination of human emotion. People like Nia (Kristen Stewart) and Silas (Nicholas Hoult) live calm, uneventful, drone-like lives. The two work alongside each other in a large office, creating informational publications and exchanging the occasional pleasantry. Life is simple, until a rumor starts to circulate: a disease has broken out; one that causes people to manifest emotions. If discovered by the powers that be, the infected are sent away, never to return. Silas suspects he carries the disease, and when this is confirmed, he becomes an outcast. But he is drawn back to Nia, who is also infected but has managed to hide the symptoms far better than he. Upon discovering they are similarly stricken, they need to decide whether to stay and hide or run for freedom. 

This future is, at first glance, a beautiful one: high windows, greenery, light-infused work spaces, food and shelter for all. But the viewer starts to feel unease at the spectacle of empty-eyed people moving through yet another day. 

EQUALS poses the question: could we scientifically suppress the strongest human emotion, or is love so strong it could truly conquer all? –Toronto International Film Festival

The movie releases in theaters on July 15, with an additional release a month before on DIRECTV CINEMA, on May 26.
