Brendan Gleeson will share the big screen with Twilight star Kristen Stewart in an historical Scottish drama. The Great Getaway tells the story of the 18th Century flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie, or Charles Edward Stuart.
Known as the Young Pretender, he instigated the unsuccessful Jacobite uprising 1745, which ended in defeat at the Battle of Culloden.
Scenes depicting the battle, in which Stuart's Highlanders were defeated by the Duke of Cumberland, will be the most extensive of their kind ever shot in Scotland, with more than 500 extras involved.
Stewart is best-known for her role as Bella Swan in the Twilight films. She has been approached to play Flora MacDonald, a member of a family of Hebridean Jacobite sympathisers who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie during his escape to the Isle of Skye.
It is unclear what role Gleeson (60) will have, but it is believed he will play a courageous clansman.
