NEW Clip from LIFE: Watch Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan Bring an Iconic James Dean Photograph to Life

In this new clip from Life, photographer Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) takes the iconic photo of James Dean (Dane DeHaan) in New York City.

Synopsis from The Playlist:

In 1955, ambitious Hollywood photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and the then still unknown James Dean (DeHaan) meet at one of director Nicholas Ray's parties. The meeting of these two young men led to the creation of a series of world famous LIFE magazine images of a cult star before he died at the age of just 24. "James Dean haunted Times Square" in particular—recreated in this new clip—went on to become one of the most reproduced photographs of the 20th century.

NEW MOVIE ALERT: Robert Pattinson to Star in Claire Denis' Sci Fi Film

Yay!! According to Screendaily, Robert Pattinson is confirmed to star in Claire Denis' new Sci Fi film:

Robert Pattinson is attached to play the lead role in Claire Denis’ upcoming English-language sci-fi film, written with British writer Zadie Smith.

Paris-based producers Alcatraz Film confirmed the casting to ScreenDaily and said: “We are very proud and very happy, as is Claire, about what will be a great collaboration. Robert is committed to the project and we are committed to him.”

Pattinson is set to play the astronaut lead role in the as-yet-untitled film, which Screen first reported on in June.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is known to take place beyond the solar system in a ‘future that seems like the present’.

Denis is writing the script with acclaimed novelist Smith (White Teeth) and Smith’s writer husband Nick Laird.

The project, which marks an intriguing change of direction for the White Material and Beau Travail writer-director, is based on an original idea by Denis and her regular writing partner Jean-Pol Fargeau and is due to go into production early next year.

Producers are Oliver Dungey (Miss Julie), Laurence Clerc and Olivier Thery Lapiney from Paris-based Alcatraz Films, and Claudia Steffen and Christoph Friedel of Pandora Filmproduktion in Cologne.

Alcatraz and Pandora produced Denis’ most recent feature Bastards, which debuted at Cannes in 2013.

Denis regulars Wild Bunch are handling international sales while Des Hamilton is casting the project, which is currently in advanced development and is due to shoot in studio in Cologne in late 2015/early 2016.

Collaborators on the film also include Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, known for his Tate Modern installation The Weather Project; astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau, known for his work on black holes and cosmology; and Stuart Staples of indie band Tindersticks, who previously provided music for Denis titles including White Material and 35 Rhums.

The news was first reported on French site L’Express.

This sounds interesting; a little like Gravity and Interstellar. Congrats, Rob!! Can't wait to find out more about the film.

What do you all think of the new project? Leave comments below.

MENTIONS: Connie Britton Says Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg's Celebrity Growth is "Remarkable" and "Extraordinary"

Connie Britton spoke very highly about her American Ultra co-stars Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg's celebrity growth with Time.com:

_____________________

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg, your costars in this movie, have been in the public eye from a very young age. You, by contrast, went to college and had a whole life before fame. What contrast do you see between your experience and theirs?

In everything I’ve ever worked on, inevitably, I’ve ended up working with younger actors who are getting into their careers at a very young age. Jesse and Kristen are remarkable because not only did they get into their careers at a very young age but they also reached enormous success at a very young age—and very well-deserved success at a very young age. They’re extraordinary to me; I kind of gawk at them because their talent is so well-honed, and to have that level of talent at such a young age and to be able to access it and parlay that into a career is something I will never be able to understand because that was not my experience. My experience has been a different one, and may be interesting to some, because some people always ask me, “You reached more success as you got older, and usually they say you can’t do that as a woman, blah blah blah”—to me, it’s really interesting to see young people be able to be so self-possessed in the ways they are.

MENTIONS: Jillian Dempsey Talks Kristen Stewart's Cat-Eye Makeup from the AMERICAN ULTRA Premiere

main.original

Jillian Dempsey talked with Byrdie about how she styled Kristen Stewart's bold, striking cat-eye makeup for the American Ultra premiere, inspired by "vintage eyeliner queen Edie Sedgewick":
__________________

Leave it to the perennially cool K.Stew to take the classic cat eye and make it totally punk rock. The actress took a “go big or go home” approach to her liner at the American Ultra premiere this week, showing off a bold, graphic eye that has us rethinking our go-to winged look.

Makeup artist Jillian Dempsey says she was inspired by vintage eyeliner queen Edie Sedgewick, as well as Stewart’s tousled hairstyle, created by Adir Abergel—not to mention her sparkling, Zuhair Murad playsuit. And while our typical cat eye usually just involves a precise flicka da wrist, this required some coloring outside the lines. “I literally popped her in front of the mirror, standing up, and felt like a kid drawing a big line with a crayon,” Dempsey tells us, noting that she used her own Jillian Dempsey Khol Eyeliner in Jet Black ($20). “It was a bit effortless yet dramatic.” So, exactly what we need for a night out—plus it’s party-proof, since a little bit of smudging is totally allowed.

MENTIONS: Chad Gilbert Talks Hayley Williams + His Favorite Bjork Tracks with TeamRocks.com

Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory (also Hayley Williams' fiance) mentioned her in an interview with Matt Stocks of TeamRock.com. Chad listed his top 10 best Bjork tracks of all time.

6. UNRAVEL (Homogenic, 1997)
Unravel is a very simple song. It’s very short too, but it’s always been one of my favourites. ‘While you are away, my heart comes undone / Slowly unravels, in a ball of yarn / The devil collects it with a grin / Our love in a ball of yarn / He’ll never return it / So when you come back we’ll have to make new love.’ That’s the lyrics to the whole song. My entire life I’ve been in relationships where I’ve been far away from someone, and I’m obviously still in a long distance relationship now with Hayley [Williams]. We’ll go on tour and not see each other for three months, and then when you come back there’s sort of this period where you fall back in love with each other. You’re still the same people, but you haven’t lived together for three months and you’ve both grown individually, so when you get back together it’s like this whole new growing together period and it’s awesome. It’s like falling in love all over again, and the lyrics to Unravel are the perfect description of that.

AMERICAN ULTRA: Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg Talk to Variety + New Quotes

Kristen Stewart Jesse Eisenberg American Ultra

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg led a bevy of stars at the red carpet world premiere of “American Ultra” at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, including Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Tony Hale and John Leguizamo.

Hale described writer Max Landis‘ film, directed by Nima Nourizadeh, as something utterly unique in the summer blockbuster lineup. “It’s kind of a stoned ‘Bourne Identity,'” said Hale.

“(Eisenberg) is not like a Jean-Claude Van Damme or like a Matt Damon; he’s just this quirky kid that can all of a sudden kill somebody with a spoon.”

Landis told Variety on the red carpet that while writing the film, he wanted to shed the rules of the genre and present the audience with a quality experience.

“People going in here expecting the same old stuff are going to be very surprised and horrified by it,” he said. “It’s so important that people come out and support this… because it’s an indie made in a big way with a really big idea and that just doesn’t happen much anymore.”

Stewart was initially attracted to the script and said that she felt comfortable teaming up with her “Adventureland” co-star again.

“It was such a mishmash of genres and such, and such a strange tone I knew that I needed someone really intelligent to sort of lead the way and keep them together and cohesive,” said Stewart. “I had worked with him before and I knew that we could do something funny and sweet and kinda scary.”

Stewart and Eisenberg recently made headlines when they took on gender stereotypes in an awkward interview produced by “Funny or Die.” Eisenberg said that his sister, Hallie, gave him the idea to switch question cards during the interview where Stewart asked him if he was pregnant.

“She had just graduated from college so she was highly alerted to gender issues,” he said. “It was not only funny for us to do, but it had the added benefit of preempting bad questions before we started the press.”

The after-party was held next door at the Upstairs Bar atop the Ace Hotel. “Teen Wolf” actress Holland Roden and Taylor Lautner, who came to support his “Twilight” co-star Stewart, were among the attendees mingling around the pool and bar areas overlooking downtown. Drinks were served with comfort food that could have satisfied the munchies: mini-pizzas, quesadillas, cheeseburger sliders, ice-cream sandwiches and M&M-covered brownies.

Lionsgate releases “American Ultra” on Aug. 21.

NEW INTERVIEW: Robert Pattinson Talks LIFE and Taking Cell Phone Pictures with WAZ Online

Robert Pattinson did an interview with WAZ Online to discuss his new movie Life and his life under a photographer's camera daily:

Mr. Pattinson usually you are hunted by photographers. How does it feel to play a photographer hunting stars in your new movie 'Life'?

I'm playing the young Magnum photographer Dennis Stock, who gets to know James Dean before he became an Icon- no least because of the picture of a moody James Dean in Times Square with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Stock would have hated it if you called him a papparazzi. He thought of himself as an artist and did everything to be seen as one. That is how I see him.

Okay the times were a little more calm in the 50's. How would you react if someone approached you today and said ‘Hey Rob I want to take a couple of pictures of you’ like Stock did with Dean?

That would be impossible. l would feel like a psychopath would be after me. But it was different back then. There were no cell phones and not amateur photographers, only professionals and they had to find a magazine to publish their pictures. Today the Internet is flooded with cell phone pictures.

How do you deal with the omnipresent cell phone pictures?

A lot of it depends on my mood. lf l’m in a good mood, everything is okay. When l’m not, I do feel bothered. You have to watch out to not get strange and feel persecuted: Then you start to believe that people take pictures of you, who actually have better things to do with their day than do that.

Did you cope well with the media hype of Twilight in your early 20's?

Most of the time I was busy hiding. You are in shock. You don't really understand what is happening. My personal growth was stopped in a way. It was weird: There I was 22 and suddenly I aged 2-3 years. I was working and did a lot of movies during that time. It was madness. My first real break I had after the last Twilight movie.

Is it quieter now? No one recognizes you with your huge beard anyway.

That's true. Now! go to the grocery store without looking around. Fortunately I gained a lot of self-confidence. But l’m still cautious: you don't want drunken pictures of yourself out there.

Meanwhile do you think you were able to shake off the teen heartthrob image?

The real problem was: You are measured according to a weird criteria when you are part of gigantic expensive movies, which are so under pressure to perform. The question always is: How many millions will that movie make? it's ridiculous! You have to watch out not to get stuck in that world.

You must have made enough money to withdraw yourself from that world. Why don't you?

lt’s not that much money. You don't really think about it though. Money is not the primary objective of a young actor. And having enough money is no reason to quit.

What is your goal?

Difiicult to say, but a road is appearing slowly, also with my movie choices. During Twilight l basically pushed the reset button every time and then the next movie would come out.

And then?

I took careful steps into reality. I always strictly distinguished: There was the character that I played in the movies and on the other side my real life.

And today?

Now I try to make more personal movies that have more to do with me and where I have more
control. I'm making movies with authors like David Cronenberg and now Anton Corbijn.

How is it different with them?

They protect you. They don’t let themselves be influenced by others- not like a director who works for a big studio. It may happen that there is a call from above and it's not the directors film anymore but the studios.

And now you open the doors for those authors: Cronenberg said that your name on the Cosmopolis poster brought financing.

Well, l hope the directors do not only pick me just to get financing. I'm also doing very small roles, like in Herzog’s ‘Queen of the Desert’ as Lawrence of Arabia. I don’t believe that an actor is able to guarantee success on his name alone. Those times are over, with a few exceptions though: one of those exceptions is Brad Pitt.

A lot of what you say does sound bitter. Would you wish your success with Twilight on younger people/actors?

Hold on, it was also a great time. Twilight is something very special, if only because of the
enthusiastic fans. My advice for young actors would be to not get overwhelmed and they should
watch out and keep a healthy relationship with reality. If not you can drift easily and are not even
aware of it. So take good care of yourself.

AMERICAN ULTRA: Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg Interview with Miami Herald

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg did an interview with Miami Herald to talk about their new film American Ultra

"American Ultra" is one of the funniest, most action-packed movies of the summer, and much of its humor comes from the unlikely casting of Jesse Eisenberg as a stoner who morphs into a government agent killing machine.

Eisenberg just laughs at the notion that he might ever play such a role. "Oh yeah, when my mother gave birth to an undersized premature baby with an androgynous name, I'm sure she thought I'd grow up to be a big action movie star," he says during a recent telephone interview that also featured co-star Kristen Stewart.

But Eisenberg and Stewart say they saw something special in the script by Max Landis, the son of John Landis, who directed such classics as "Animal House," "The Blues Brothers" and the Michael Jackson video "Thriller." And they were eager to work with director Nima Mourizadeh, whose best-known previous film was 2012's surprise hit "Project X."

"The script was really great, and the characters were so consistent in how they responded to the absurd situations they faced," Eisenberg says.
Stewart adds: "We thought the script really worked, but whether we could pull it off was another thing. But Jesse is hyperintelligent, and I was confident about this guy," who was her co-star in yet another film, 2009's coming-of-age tale "Adventureland."

The movie, which opens nationwide Friday, starts out as a typical independent film-style love story, with Mike Howell (Eisenberg) getting stoned and working a nowhere job at a West Virginia Cash & Carry while his more responsible girlfriend, Phoebe (Stewart), works at a bail bond shop.

They smoke dope in the morning. They smoke dope at night. And Mike thinks everything is hunky-dory, even if he is prone to panic attacks. So he buys Phoebe an engagement ring and plans to pop the question, if he can ever find the right moment.
One night at the Cash & Carry, Mike has a mysterious visitor named Lasseter (Connie Britton), who tries to give Mike a coded message that he interprets as a bunch of gobbledygook. Later, while eating some ramen noodles, he spots two black-clad men messing with his dilapidated Ford and asks what they're doing to his car.
They attack. And Mike kills both of them with his soup spoon. He's rather stunned and doesn't know what to do. So he calls up Phoebe. "I just killed two people," he says. To which Phoebe responds, rather flippantly, "That's awesome." Then Mike explains: "They had guns and knives, and they were being total d---!"

That kind of stoner humor continues throughout "American Ultra," as Mike gradually finds out that he was once trained as a special government agent but was decommissioned without any memory of the past. Lasseter was in charge of the program, and she's just learned that Mike has been targeted for elimination, so the gobbledygook she muttered at the Cash & Carry was actually a code that reactivated his skills as a trained killer. Mike, of course, has no idea where his newfound skills are coming from, and he's baffled.

It's an unlikely role for Eisenberg, who's known for playing intelligent, somewhat hapless guys in Woody Allen movies. And he just laughs at his transition to action in "American Ultra."
Stewart notes that Eisenberg always "looked like he was going to have a heart attack when he did some of the big action scenes." To which Eisenberg responds: "I got my cholesterol checked every morning. It was so much more exhausting and demanding than you'd think."

In fact, being baffled by what's going on is part of the movie's charm, especially for audiences, who gradually learn the backstory as it's revealed to Mike after numerous scenes of mass destruction.

"We threw ourselves into it, and it all genuinely felt real," Stewart says. "It was cool to do that, even though we're both incredibly nervous and anxiety-ridden people." "Yeah, it was incredible," Eisenberg adds. "They actually blew up a car next to us, and it was very real and very terrifying."

In essence, the movie is a big mashup of 1980s and 1990s genre films, with inspiration from "The Terminator" and "Reality Bites." "Landis grew up in the world of movies, so he's referencing other movies - and referencing them in a way that makes them great," Eisenberg says. "There's a modern sense of irony and self-awareness."
Eisenberg also thinks a lot of the humor comes from the supporting actors, including John Leguizamo as one of Mike's stoner friends and Topher Grace as an obsessed CIA agent who pulls out all the stops to have Mike killed. "Topher plays this constant bad guy, but nothing is working out for him," Eisenberg laughs. "He wants to be this big Machiavellian guy, but people aren't listening to him. We're not the typical heroes, and he's not the typical bad guy."

Neither Eisenberg nor Stewart knows whether a sequel will be written. A lot probably depends on how the movie fares at the box office. But it's looking like a hit at this point.

Eisenberg says he'd consider coming back for a sequel "if it's as good as the first one." But Stewart hedges her bets, noting that the charm of the movie comes from the slow and funny realization that Eisenberg's character is a trained killer: "Once the bubble is burst, how do you do that again?"
