On March 8th, women’s rights and achievements are globally recognized and celebrated across the world for International Women’s Day.
Since the early 1900s, International Women’s Day has been a movement towards gender equality, including the right to vote, be trained, hold public office and receive better pay. According to the official International Women’s Day website, “The unfortunate fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women's education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However, great improvements have been made. We do have female astronauts and prime ministers, school girls are welcomed into university, women can work and have a family, women have real choices.”
Alter The Press is proud to work with some of the biggest and best female musicians and in honor of International Women's Day, we wanted to talk about some of our favorite ladies in the music industry who are currently kicking ass and taking names.
Hayley Williams
Hayley Williams is fronting one of the most successful bands right now, and kicking ass doing it. She serves as a role model for any girl looking to start a band, showing that girls can be successful while avoiding being turned into a sex symbol, instead of an artist. Her uniqueness and success in forging a path for other females in the industry was recognized by Billboard, who gave her the first-ever Trailblazer award. Williams has paved the way for female-fronted bands in the pop/rock industry and continues to do so, making awesome music with Paramore that’s always what they want to do, and not what anyone expects.
