My hands glowed a light pinkish hue around the outline of my fingers, and I gasped.

Edward took my hands. “Light pink means you’re in love.”

“But I’m not. Not yet, anyway.” My voice shook, then trailed off. I looked at him and saw his eyes fall in sadness. He misunderstood, and I shook my head. I wanted him to know how I felt. “But I do like you. I don’t know, I feel a really strong connection with you that I haven’t with anyone else.” I pushed his hair out of his eyes, rubbing his cool, smooth face. “If anything happened to me, if this turned into a warzone between us and the Shadows, it’d hurt you, and I don’t want to hurt you. So is it ok if we waited for awhile?”

He smiled and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, bringing me closer. “Trust me, I won’t let anything happen to you. I’ll never let anyone hurt you, not even myself.” He inhaled my hair deeply, as if it would be the last time he ever would. “And yes, we can wait.”

Teaser of the Week for "Spotlight: the Sequel" @FicCentral

Edward woke me up five hours later to tell me Brianna Weber was born.
I sat up from his shoulder in the waiting room chair and we waited for the doctor to let us know if it was okay to come see Angie and Ben.
A few minutes later, the doctor said that only two at a time could come in because the baby was sleeping. He ushered me and Edward in.
As soon as the door opened to Angela rocking her baby girl to sleep, tears sprung to my eyes, and I tripped over Edward’s feet.
Edward held me close to keep me from falling, Angela looked up in concern, and the baby’s eyes landed on my face.

This was the last day of the Cullen Family tour, and Edward was acting funny. He barely looked at me the whole day, but he talked to everyone else. He’d kept pulling Carlisle, Jasper, and Emmett aside, whispering about something. I tried to listen in, but as soon as they saw me, they’d stop and turn away. What was going on?

Alice and Rose were confused, too. The guys weren’t speaking much to them, either. I started to think it was based on the fact that after the tour, we wouldn’t see each other as much. But now, I wasn’t so sure.

We soundchecked in a Seattle arena downtown, and I pulled Edward aside.

“Hey, what’s going on with you? You’ve barely looked at me all week.” I frowned.

“I’m fine,” Edward said.

“Really. You’ve talked to everyone else, blowing me off. Are you mad at me? Did I do something wrong?” I asked.

“What makes you think I’m mad at you? No, I’m not mad at you. Just nervous.”

“About what?”

“Edward!” We both looked up at our lights guy, Ted, waving Edward over.

Edward sighed and turned back to me. “Look, I have to go. We’ll talk later.” He quickly kissed my cheek and ran off.

Jake got hold of my number and told me he was writing his own EP. He wanted me to sing a duet with him. I couldn’t speak for a good 5 minutes. How did he get my number? Why now? Did someone give him my number? Edward was going to hate this. He wouldn’t get too upset, but I knew he wouldn’t like this at all.

I told Jake I’d think about it and call him back, then told Carlisle everything. He wasn’t happy, to say the least. But he told me to do what I thought was right. I still wasn’t sure.

Alice came out with the first single for her debut album, called “Call Me Maybe.” I thought it was cheesy pop, but she liked it, so whatever.

That annoying song played everywhere, nearly every radio station, supermarket, hair salon, commercial, and TV spot for the rest of the year! I loved my sister dearly, but her song was annoying. Edward laughed at me whenever it came on, while I covered my ears. He thought it was cute, and so did the band. When the video out, Alice called Jasper to be the love interest in it, and of course he said yes. After that, Jasper got all kinds of recognition for his country music, which made him even happier.

2017

In January, Rose came out with her debut album, with about 12 songs written by her, and an extra track written by me and her, called “U + Ur Hand”. It was a fun, rock n’ roll type of song. I had written the second verse when I was in rehab, and she wrote the rest when I showed it to her.

In May, her second single, “If I Can’t Have You” came out with a lyric video, then the actual music video. She also set up a radio tour with Carlisle.

Carlisle called me to tell me Jake was being released from jail.

I didn’t care. I was over Jake and everything that had happened almost 5 years ago. I was happy. Happy with my band, my relationship with Edward, and my family. I didn’t want to speak to him right now, not when everything was falling into place for me. I’d talk to him eventually, but not right now.
Rose wanted me on a track for her new album, and I’d thought it was really sassy and cute. And the best part of it was I got to play guitar.

As for us moving in together, we would start apartment-hunting after the Grammy’s. We went for an apartment as opposed to a house because we wanted something small to start out in.

That’s right, DOTP’s song “Renegade” was nominated for “Best Rock Performance” for the 2012 Grammy’s!

I screamed so loudly when I’d first gotten the letter from the Grammy’s Association, and Alice and Rose jumped up and down and screamed with me! The boys congratulated us, and Edward kissed me hard.

Later that month, we got all dressed up to go to the event, held our breath when they announced the nominees, and…

Our third album, “Aim Your Arrows High”, was finally released.

Obviously, our fans, friends, and family loved it, but critics felt confused by it. They said they couldn’t hear Edward’s voice on the record. They could hear me clearly, but my voice overshadowed his, and that was why they gave our album a low grade. They were probably expecting Edward to be the frontman of the album, since he’s the guy. What they didn’t understand was that Edward and I were a team, we were partners. We were more than just singers in a band, or even more than together. We were in this for the long haul, and when one of us got criticized, the other did too. And it hurt me to see that Edward was getting questioned on his vocal abilities.

Edward thought it would be a good idea, for the fans to see how we recorded and as a pun to the critics, to make a video of him recording one of our songs from the album. I thought it would be better to just leave it alone, but he really wanted to do it.

I arose to the smell of pancakes. I smiled sleepily and stretched. I got up to use Edward’s side bathroom, then walked downstairs in his big T-shirt. I tripped on the way down, as usual, but got my way up. I stepped in the kitchen and turned beet red.

Edward’s whole family, and mine included, eyes were on me in Edward’s shirt.

Emmett’s jaw dropped; Esme gasped, and didn’t exactly look thrilled; Alice and Rose couldn’t stop smiling; Carlisle looked pissed; and Edward’s ears turned as red as my cheeks.

And just like a coward, I ran back upstairs. Tears of embarrassment filled my eyes as I slammed Edward’s bedroom door.

I slid down to the floor and hugged my knees, trying to contain my breath control.

I walked into my room with all my suitcases, and all eyes were on me. A tall guy with wire-rimmed glasses came up to me, and shook my hand. “Hi, Edward Cullen, right?”
Weirded out, I grabbed my hand away. “Yeah, thanks,” I said, not thankful at all. I frowned at everyone else and they looked away.
I really didn’t want to be in here. But I promised Bella that I’d get my act together, and figure myself out. If it worked for Bella, then it could work for me, too. I just didn’t see it right now.

We ran through the castle hallways, my giggles echoing through the walls. Edward smiled and grabbed my hand tighter as we kept on running. He skidded, a shocked look on his face, and said, "This way!"

He pulled me to the northeast side of the castle and we hid in a broom cupboard nearby.

Footsteps thundered past us, and I covered my face in Edward's broad chest. He'd gotten quite a build ever since he came back from the Army. I looked up at him, and rubbed his stubbled chin.

He looked down and stroked my face, gently tucking my hair behind my ear. I gulped as he took my crown from my hand and put it in a spot behind me. I looked behind and stared at the shiny piece of head jewelry that had my destiny written all over it. I had no desire to be Queen, when it would be my turn after my mother. Thankfully, I had an older sister, Rosalie, who would love to take over the throne. Unfortunately, her attitude has caused a few turned heads in the country of Washingtown. She was only focused on herself and her own needs, not the people's. That disturbed my mother, but she had always been uncontrollable.

I looked down, and swallowed a few tears. Edward's arms snaked from behind me, pulling me closer.

"You don't want to be Queen, do you?" he asked, gently.

I shook my head.

"But think of what you could do, for your family, for your country—"

"But that's too much! Too much for me to handle, I'm only 16, for God's sake! I just want to live! Be normal, for once." I turned in his arms. "To be with you, and not hide."

"I'm a wanted man, Bella."

"Not to me, you're not. You did nothing wrong."

"You know that, I know that, but the courts and everyone from that ball don't know that. They didn't see what that lowlife was going to do to you," his voice rose in anger, and he gripped my shoulders.

"Ow, Edward, you're hurting me…" I put my hands on his face soothingly. "Hey, hey, shh, it's ok.

 It's ok."

His breathing slowed down a bit and his grip loosened, then he drew me in. "I'm sorry." He whispered.

I ran my fingers through his bronze locks softly. "It's ok," I repeated. "We're going to get through this. Together."

He pulled back. "You still want me?" He asked in a small voice.

I smiled. "Of course."

Teaser for "The Spotlight is On!"

TSIO ch 64 teaser

Edward and I didn’t speak for months.

Everyone else asked us if everything was ok, but we didn’t answer.

Rose held me close when she’d found me sobbing on the kitchen floor after Edward had left. She’d asked me what happened but I couldn’t talk about it because it didn’t register in my brain yet.

And it wasn’t like Edward and I had broken up, but it seemed like it was. We’d fought before, but not like this. This was a real test for us, and I hated it.

What made matters even more difficult was that we’d gotten the trial date against Jake. When Edward found out, he started getting angrier. I understood the blame he put on Jake for what he did to me, but he really was starting to scare me.

It surprised me that he came to the first day of the trial, but not really.

The whole week of the trial was a blur, but I was glad; in the end, Jake would serve in jail for 5 years.

I let go of the huge breath I didn’t even know I was holding.

Edward hugged me for a long time when we got home with the rest of our family.

New Teaser: #TheSpotlightisOn 7/17/13

Edward and I spent my time apart writing letters to each other. It helped to tell someone close to me how I was doing. I told him all about Bree and Bryce; Bree and I became a little closer after my mini-breakdown during my move in, but she still didn’t say why she was in treatment. I didn’t say why either. It wasn’t because I didn’t trust her, I just wasn’t comfortable with telling everyone my truth yet. Edward kept writing how much everyone back home missed me, he included. I missed him too, so much.

Jake’s presence in my mind was still everywhere. I could still feel his grip on my body from that night, trying to take control of me…

I couldn’t sleep most nights, and Bree had to lend me her IPod for a “Soft Music” playlist to help me. At least I didn’t wake up screaming anymore.

One Monday afternoon, after my therapy session with Bryce, I was walking around the building, when I discovered a baby grand, black piano in a bare white room. There were no other instruments other than the piano, which that made the room even more beautiful. It accentuated the piano even more, without the need for more instruments in the room. I glanced around the room and behind me to make sure no one saw me go in. I walked in tentatively and shut the door.

I slowly walked towards the edge piano chair, running my fingers against the smooth lid.

I’ve been having this song forming in my head since the day before, but I didn’t know how to form it properly without make it seem like I was crazy.

But I had to try.
