Weekly Update #4: Music "Journalism" vs. Paramore, Robert Pattinson at #Sundance2018, but Kristen Stewart a No-Show?

I decided to try something different with the blog this week and do a wrap-up post for all the events that happened with Paramore, Rob and Kristen from January 19-26 (Sunday-Saturday). It's kind of like what some other fansites do, linking back to their own content, but I'm linking to content that I'm a fan of.

Not much happened this past week, so I will combine this week and last week to create a giant super-post! Here's the fourth installment of The Weekly Update:

Paramore

Paramore went through a bit of a falling out with a music website last week. Buzz Magazine had some choice words to say in their review of the band's Cardiff, UK show during Tour Three.

Thanks to the bright charm of Williams, singalong anthems like Still Into You and Ain’t It Fun carry the atmosphere of a raucous bachelorette party rather than a grand arena show. The mostly female crowd reaches a fever pitch when Williams pulls a fan up on stage to sing (or rather shout) 2007 breakthrough single Misery Business. It’s no Welsh Pavarotti performance, but that doesn’t matter – the two of them let it all out like two drunk pals at a karaoke bar, the crowd drowning out every word. This, it seems, is the fun that girls just wanna have.

The writer, Jasper Wilkins, even had some things to include about the value of guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro, all of which were not kind, to say the least.

The show isn’t without flaws. The muted response to drummer Zac Farro’s brief vocal stints reenforces what we all already knew: Paramore has always been the Hayley Williams show. Without her fierce charisma at the forefront the show begins to lose its momentum. Zac and guitarist Taylor York do their admirable best, but there’s no getting around the fact they lack the star power of their lead singer.

Needless to say, fans of Paramore were pissed, me included!! Hayley has always gotten the stint of being treated like the star of the show, with Taylor and Zac being her "lackys" or "sidekicks" for years. That's why so many fans still feel the sting whenever publications call the band "Hayley and co."; that company means more than the music press will ever know. Taylor knows so much about the production of music, and how to use his gear to the fullest to create the best experience. Zac is good for bringing a crowd to its feet, even if he is a little reserved. His good spirit and kind heart keep the blood that is Paramore going. If Hayley is the voice of the band, Taylor and Zac are the brain and heartbeat.

Hayley took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the review:

Other than that minor catastrophe, Paramore took the stage once again at the AFAS Live Venue in Amsterdam on January 16. See the setlist, photos and videos below.

Robert

Robert attended the Dior Homme Fall/Winter Fashion show in Paris on January 21. I love the all-black, leather look! Rob met with some famous faces, like rapper Big Sean and model Bella Hadid. See some photos below!

Robert Pattinson spent his first time at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival with co-star Mia Wasikowska and directors David and Nathan Zellner. They attended five studios for interviews in promotion of their film, Damsel, during Day 4 on January 22.

They visited Deadline Studios, Variety Studios, IMDB Studios, The Hollywood Reporter Studios, and Acura Studios. The Hollywood Reporter photos are most interesting because they are shown of Rob playing some type of ring toss game. Hope we know more about that! See more photos from each studio in the links below from RobPattinsonAustralia

Robert Pattinson and the cast attended the World Premiere of Damsel at Sundance Film Festival on January 23. While at the premiere, Rob talked with ZoominTV about learning to clog dance for the film. How fun! There is also a video interview with Vanity Fair West Coast editor Krista Smith. They discuss the differences between working with the Zellner bros. vs. Safdie bros. from Good Time, working with "oddball" characters, as well as fans' reception of the western flick.

After the premiere, they had a Q&A with fans and press.

Kristen

While Kristen Stewart did not attend the 2018 Sundance Film Festival in promotion of her latest effort, Lizzie, there were plenty of positive reviews on her performance in the film.

We Live Entertainment called Kristen's performance "just another incredible performance to add to the actress’ constantly growing filmography."

Next Best Picture was "convinced" of Kristen's Irish accent in the movie.

SlashFilm called Chloe and Kristen's chemistry in the film, " a fierce response to abuse and oppression."

Kristen's co-star Chloe Sevigny talked to many media outlets and publications about her working experience with her.

I want to talk about working with Kristen Stewart, because I love the way your characters and your performances counteract each other. Much of the film is about Lizzie's strength and how that balances Bridget's vulnerability, but there are key points where those roles are reversed and they need to be the other thing for each other. How did the two of you develop that dynamic?
She's very aware of filmmaking—the camera, lighting, everything. She's a very self-aware person, and she's also very free. She wants to try stuff, and it's very immersive and emotional. She brought this real energy. Any day she was on the set, it was like, "Alright! Now shit's gonna happen." [Laughs] She's such a present force.
Kristen said it was her first time doing period, and an accent, so I think that she struggled with that at a bit. The costumes were really hard for her [Laughs]. She would, like, take off her skirt, and she'd be in her Vans and her jeans, and smoking cigarettes and being all disgruntled [Laughs]. She's a cool lady, and that's part of the reason we wanted to cast her: We really believe in her as a person—what she puts out there, the kind of films she chooses to do, and the kind of work that she wants to represent her.

There’s also a scene where Kristen Stewart’s character is sexually harassed by her employer. As someone who started out so young in Hollywood, is that something you’ve ever experienced on a job?  I haven’t, luckily. I don’t know if it’s my strength of character or who I am, but I was somehow spared. I’ve definitely had men say stuff off the cuff, like, “I never knew you had a body,” or, I’ve been in a casting where a director said, “You should show your body more.” Things like that are just uncalled for. I think that’s very casual sexism that we all deal with at work all the time.

What was it like working with Kristen?
She was amazing. I was so impressed with her, and almost jealous, in a way. No wonder she has the career that she has because she’s so bright and she brings so much and she works so hard and she’s so prepared and she has so many ideas in the moment and she’s questioning everything. She came in as this force and shook everybody up. I wish I had that wherewithal when I was her age, or even now.

During the third screening of Lizzie, director Craig W. Macneill discussed Kristen's work in the film on January 21.
