Joseph Julian Soria Mentions Kristen & CAMP XRAY in Audio Interview with Larry Richman

Picture

Joseph Julian Soria is a rare breed in Hollywood -- he's a successful working actor. From regular roles on television series to big budget movies, little indies to guest spots on popular episodics like CSI and NCIShe's made a name for himself by exhibiting the highest level of professionalism in the business. He gives everything he's got, and the industry knows that. Soria (J.J. to his friends) has over 70 projects to his credit, adding up all those movies and television episodes.

Interestingly, Soria and I both began our movie careers with the same film. It was almost nine years ago when, in a series of serendipitous circumstances much too long for this article, I was writing a story about young actor Michael Angarano. He had just completed a film titled Bondage, and both writer/director Eric Allen Bell and Michael saw my online posts and invited me to spend a week hanging out with them at the movie's world premiere. I spent several days as their guest, at the 2006 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, and I was hooked. That event, because of that film, made me fall in love with film festivals -- and I haven't looked back. Joseph Julian Soria's first role was in that movie (he played Mexican Inmate #2 -- and nailed it) -- and he hasn't looked back, either.

Our parallel paths have crossed several times since 2006. We both traveled to Sundance (albeit for slightly different reasons) for Hamlet 2 in 2008, High School in 2010, All She Can in 2011, and Filly Brown in 2012. Soria also appeared in several hot Hollywood movies, including the first Fast & Furious and Crank: High Voltage (both 2009), and enjoyed a successful 27-episode run as Hector Cruz on the multi award-winning Army Wives.

Now he's starring in Camp X-Ray, which just had its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. His fifth trip there was the most fun, he tells me in this frank interview, and he shares a serious work ethic with co-star Kristen Stewart. The two display a special kind of cinematic magic on the screen, and he reveals the secrets of that relationship here.
